What to take?                                                          Back

                                                                Clothes:
1. When traveling, I have found that you have to pack according to where your going. If you want to become (For a little
while) a member of the society which you are visiting, you'll want to dress in the native costume.
  A. If you have enough funds it won't be a problem. You can just buy your cloths when you get to your destination.
  B. However this could pose a problem if your going to, say Paris, etc.
  C. These clothes, if you can't wear them when you get home, will make a nice souvenir. I wear sarongs when in
Indonesia and not only are female friends  wearing the nice gifts I bought them while in Bali but I have a nice one
hanging in my living room. I wish I could start a trend at the Jersey Shore. With the right body men look good in
sarongs & girls look great. Check the beaches in Hawaii, Tahiti, etc
2. When traveling to south east Asia you can almost cover the cost of your vacation by buying your wardrobe while your
     there.
     A. During my trip to Bangkok I had two sport jackets tailor made overnight. one was cashmere with silk lining the
other was a heavy Thai silk with a light silk lining. For both of these jackets I paid $105.00 U. S. The same quality
jackets in the States would cost about $400.00 each off the rack. So my savings of around $700. paid for my
round trip airfare from N. Y. City. I bought  a sundress in Bali for a friend & one day while walking through New
Hope, Pa. (while she was wearing it) We came across, almost the same  dress, in the window of a fancy boutique
for $70.00. I had paid $9.00 and had them throw in two child size sarongs.
      B. Have sandals made to order or buy them there, you'll find they are of good quality & very reasonably priced. If
fact most leather goods are of high quality Pocket books, luggage, etc. are good buys. I bought a belt on my first
trip to Bali. I've worn it almost exclusively since that time, it's still in good shape. I can't say the same for expensive
belts I've bought in men's shops here in the States. It cost around $3.00 U. S.
So Pack light: You'll have more room to bring back the things you buy while there & don't forget you can always ship
what you can't carry. Also, since the cloths are so cheap, if you don't want the added expense of shipping you can
 always discard them.        Al
