Travels with Nyoman                                                       Back
I met Nyoman Santry on my first trip to Bali. I was walking back to my home stay after spending the day in Ubud. It had been a long day and I faced about a two mile walk, half of which was uphill, so when a mini van pulled up next to me and the driver said "You, perhaps need a ride." I gladly agreed and jumped in without even asking the price. Once in the van I realized that we hadn't settled on a price, so I proceeded, after telling him where I had to go, to work out a price.
He turned out to be very friendly (Typically Balinese.) and after the ride home, I asked if he would be available besok (Tomorrow). He said he had nothing to do and a great friendship began. At first we shopped for import products and later we toured the islands famous and not so famous attractions. I met his wife and family when he invited me back to his home for dinner & since have become almost a part of that family.
