Tetanus (Lockjaw): Back
Tetanus: is by a germ that lives in soil & attacks the spinal cord & nerve calls. It can be prevented by a vaccine - see vaccinations. If you have been immunized you'll need a booster shot every 10 years. Check with your doctor before you travel (Anywhere) To make sure your vaccination is up to date. Tetanis starts with a stiff jaw and neck and quickly goes into painful convulsions. medical help has to be found very fast. This is a disease that there is no excuse for getting. You get this one, you asked for it.
Rabies: The deadly disease caused by the bite of an infected animal can also be transmitted by an infected animal licking an open wound. Not all infected animals demonstrate the the perceived symptoms, these only show up in the later stages of infection. In Indonesia the most common carriers are: dogs, cats, & bats. Once bitter/licked the virus works it's way through the body to the brain. once it infects the brain death is certain. It moves through the body slowly and can take up to 30 days to reach the brain, if say starting from the lower leg, where if bitten around the face/neck it will get there in 10 days or less. Getting vaccinated ahead of time won't protect you 100% you will still need but the one shot of vaccine you will get if you were is better then the five you'll get if you weren't. No matte rwhat, if bitten by any animal, clean the wound and seek medical help.
Typhoid is spread through contaminated food & water & the vaccine is not 100% effective if starts with a fever, headache, etc. but the fever rises everyday. after about seven days small pink spots may appear on the body. The real danger of typhoid fever is dehydration followed by a chance of getting Pneumonia or Peritonitis (a Perforated bowel). Seek medical help. You'll probably be put on penicillin if you not allergic to it, as the best medicine, ciprofloxacin because it is expensive, is very hard to find in Indonesia.
