Going home, don't forget: Back
1. To keep enough cash to pay the airport tax & maybe get coffee or food at the airport.
(Don't exchange all your foreign currency till your about to board.
2. Addresses - People you met: Jot down addresses of people you met on your trip that you
want to keep in touch with. Also where you met/what you did together, something to help
you remember who they are. I've gotten back home to find out that I couldn't place names
with faces (I usually travel alone & so meet a lot of people.)
2a. Mail a second list to yourself. If for any reason you loose the first you'll still have the
addresses.
3. Make sure you don't forget to pack everything.
3a. check dressers, bathroom, under bed, etc. Laundry, when I left Bali on my last trip I
was in a rush and forgot to check with the desk about my laundry. I lost two batik
shirts plus a bathing suit.
3b. When packing make sure that anything you have to declare at customs is handy. on top
would be good. Better yet all in one suitcase.
4. Make sure you've mailed all postcards, etc. you wrote. A friend mentioned this to me.
She had gotten home, only to find a couple of postcards she had meant to post were still
in her suitcase. You can always say that the postal service, where you went is
notoriously slow and you mailed them early in your vacation, but you can't do this if they
are postmarked in your home country.
4a. While at the Post Office remember that stamps are little pictures and some have
scenes from or information about the country your visiting. They could make (along
with coins & currency, if inexpensive enough.) nice gifts to children you know. Mary
Beth's girls took the coins and paper money, that I had brought back for them, to show
& tell at their school. They now have a currency and a stamp collection. Both of these
collections are educational.
5. If you've had film developed, don't forget to pick it up.
