Wayan is painting in the traditional Balinese style. The arts of Bali have been influenced by the influx of western culture, however they (The Balinese) have managed to hold onto their culture, copying only the things they like, I have seen all forms of art on Bali, from Cubism to Renaissance, from Modern to Gothic & some of the works I've seen were Spectacular, almost all were very good. but the detail in this style of painting, to me, was beyond belief. |
Creating a work of art. Batik Tulis (The art of painting wax designs on material to keep the dyes from permeating that area.) In this way they create some of the most spectacular wall hangings & other material art I've ever seen. Go to textiles |
| This carver is rough cutting one of the horses I had carved to make into rocking horses. As I said he's rough cutting, after he finishes the master carver will take over & with deft hands will apply the finishing touches. Go to Wood carvings | |

Weaving is
still an art in Indonesia, with Ikat being King. In Ikat the threads are
tie- dyed
before being woven. Although Ikat is made throughout Indonesia & some
of the more prized Ikat comes from Sumba, Flores and some of the small
islands in the archipelago, only the Balinese create the outstanding
double Ikat, where both the warp & waft threads are pre-dyed. Read
more about Ikat and see some of my products.
